ART CLASSES
Hannibal Square Community Outreach Art Classes 

Fostering cultural diversity, understanding of pluralism, preservation of cultural heritage and outreach to underserved communities through free art classes are all part of the Crealdé School of Art mission. Since 1996 Crealdé has offered free, onsite outreach classes to west Winter Park seniors and youth, first at the Winter Park Community Center in Hannibal Square and since 2007 at The Hannibal Square Heritage Center.

​Also offered are community workshops with visiting artists and the What Heritage Means to Me field trip program, which make use of the surrounding exhibitions and historic neighborhood to engage participants in reflection about their own story and heritage.

Free Art Sampler for Children

Eight-week classes provide up to 15 students ages 5 to 10 with professional instruction from Crealdé faculty in the fundamentals of painting, drawing, ceramics and sculpture. Children’s classes are conducted September through May, Wednesdays, 4-5 p.m., in the downstairs classroom at the Hannibal Square Heritage Center.

Classes are open to all Winter Park residents, but preference is given to families residing in the Hannibal Square neighborhood/CRA district.

Hands-On Art Sampler Classes for Winter Park Seniors

Led by Fabiola Hansen, participants use a variety of materials to create original works of art incorporating painting and drawing, mixed media, and three-dimensional art.
At the end of the year, participants exhibit their work in the Hannibal Square Heritage Center.

Crealdé School of Art Visual Art Curriculum

Classes for students of all ages and educational backgrounds are available in painting & drawing, ceramics, sculpture, and photography at Crealdé School of Art’s main campus.

Located at 600 St. Andrews Boulevard in Winter Park (located two miles from the Heritage Center).

COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS BY VISITING ARTISTS

In addition to the art classes by Crealdé’s professional faculty, the Heritage Center hosts an annual artist’s residency with a noted guest artists who engages the community in a public art project. Past artists included Smithsonian-collected folk artists Ruby C. Williams and Mr. Imagination. Participants in the workshops learn the craft of each artist as they work together on a piece of artwork that uses personal and family experience as inspiration. By participating in the collaborative projects and in the exhibition, individuals will have a deeper sense of belonging and contributing to their community, building self-confidence, teaching team skills, and increasing community ownership.
